Catholic Heart Workcamp is a group of Catholic youth ministers and teens,13,000 strong this summer, in over 50 different cities, serving people and groups in need. Hundreds of teens and their mentors came to serve in Detroit this past week. For the third year in a row, Voices for Earth Justice had Catholic Heart Work Campers come and volunteer at Hope House for four days. They helped in the garden and painted a shed, the barn, and windows and doors in the education center.

In June, VEJ completed a native plant garden in partnership with D-Town Farm. The farm is run by the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network, and the garden was planted primarily to support their honey beehives. A Fresh Water Future grant funded the project. Completed by Naim and VEJ's summer intern, Theresa. The garden is designed in the image of DBCFSN's emblem. |
