How you can help those in need because of COVID-19
NEW: This Friday, April 3, join us for "virtual drinks" as we sit down to chat with Kimberly Nash, RN, about the COVID-19 virus in Michigan. She'll answer your questions about the virus and how it is affecting life in our city and state. Learn more and sign up here (it's free and it's online).
The COVID-19 pandemic calls for every organization and every person to do something for the health and safety of us all.
For this reason, VEJ is setting aside its normal programs to focus on giving relief to those in greatest need because of COVID-19.
We are calling on our friends to help in four ways:
We are working on other ways to serve and support the community over the weeks ahead. To keep up with how you can be part of what the VEJ community is doing, please sign up for our email news here or join our Facebook page here.
Maybe you've heard the saying: "A crisis is a terrible thing to waste." We agree.
These are hard times, but how we choose to respond to them could literally change our lives and the world for the better. Please let us know how we can serve and support you. You are in our prayers. Stay healthy and, most important, stay hopeful!

For this reason, VEJ is setting aside its normal programs to focus on giving relief to those in greatest need because of COVID-19.
We are calling on our friends to help in four ways:
- Make a donation to help our partners at Brightmoor Connection get food and water to people who are most vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19. Click here to donate now.
- If you are healthy, young, and have not been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, help Brightmoor Connection box and deliver food to people who are not able to leave their homes to get what they need at this time. Click here to volunteer now.
- Volunteer to be a pen pal. These days can be lonely and scary for all of us, especially for those who are most vulnerable and not able to leave their homes. But COVID-19 does not have to isolate us. We are calling on your to volunteer to be a pen pal with someone else who could use encouragement and the feeling of community. It's easy. Just sign up and tell us a little about yourself. We'll connect you with your pen pal via email. Each morning, you'll receive a new question to ask your pen pal. We will focus on connecting people from very different backgrounds and walks of life. We hope this turns out to be something that will forever change the way you look at life and at people. Sign up to be a pen pal here .
- Go on your own Wonder Walk. Last year, VEJ launched a new program called Wonder Walks that took people to some of southeast Michigan's most amazing nature spaces to learn and to reflect. We will bring Wonder Walks back when it is safe for groups to gather again, but for now we want you to go on your own Wonder Walks alone or with your family. Choose a park or nature preserve nearby, take photos, and post them at VEJ's Facebook page using the hashtag #WonderWalk.
